The Development Bureau (DEVB) today (June 24) received the Client of the Year award from the New Engineering Contract (NEC) Users' Group of the United Kingdom. The Drainage Services Department received the Water Project of the Year and Contract Innovation awards, and the Civil Engineering and Development Department received the Transport Project of the Year award. Other works departments also received commendations under different award categories, and their results are encouraging.
The NEC Awards is an annual event of the NEC Users' Group under the Institution of the Civil Engineers of the United Kingdom to give recognition to projects and organisations around the world that have showcased excellence in project delivery through collaborative partnering. This year, the NEC Awards attracted a total of over 50 entries from across the world.
The Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Lam Sai-hung, said at the awards presentation ceremony held for the awardees in Hong Kong that he was pleased to see the successful development of mutual trust and a co-operative culture within the public works sector through the adoption of the NEC, with outstanding performance achieved in the NEC Awards this year.
The DEVB piloted the use of the NEC form in public works projects in 2009 and has expanded its application since 2015. As of today, more than 300 NECs for public works have been awarded, amounting to over $160 billion.
The full list of the awardees of the NEC Awards will be available on the NEC User's Group's website at www.neccontract.com/NEC4-Products/NEC-Awards/Awards-2021.
