The Development Bureau (DEVB) and the Construction Industry Council (CIC) co-organised the 29th Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme Award Presentation Ceremony today (October 4) to commend construction contractors, site supervising teams, project leaders, frontline supervisors and workers with outstanding safety performance.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Ricky Lau, said that every member of the project teams plays an important role in site safety, and has an indispensable responsibility to ensure site safety. Everyone has a responsibility and performs their own duties. The DEVB has been striving to uplift site safety, including collaborating with the CIC in promoting a wider adoption of the Design for Safety and Smart Site Safety System in the industry. He pointed out that apart from using technology to uplift site safety, it is necessary to revamp the site safety culture and enhance the safety awareness of industry stakeholders.
Also officiating at the ceremony, the Chairman of the CIC, Mr Thomas Ho, stressed that ensuring site safety was of paramount importance. He believed that a wider adoption of the Smart Site Safety System could further uplift site safety performance.
Sixty-one sites received awards this year, of which 33 came from the public works category and 28 from the non‑public works category. Model Project Leader Awards were introduced this year to commend project leaders for their contributions in enhancing site safety and fostering a safety culture. The list of awardees of the Scheme will be available on the website of Construction Safety Week (www.safetyweek.hk).
