The Government releases today (May 9) the report by the Independent Committee of Inquiry (ICI) on the Sai Wan Ho Development on Inland Lot No. 8955.
Copies of the report can be downloaded at http://www.info.gov.hk/ or collected at the Information Services Department at 4/F, Murray Building.
A Government spokesman said: "We are grateful to the ICI for its careful and in-depth inquiry. We accept the observations by the Committee on the Building Authority's exercise of discretion in relation to the development and has commenced the concerned follow-up work."
The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, appointed the three-member Independent Committee on November 16 last year to conduct an inquiry into the Sai Wan Ho development including how and under what circumstances the Building Authority's discretionary powers are exercised, and having regard to the findings, how the concerned departments may better perform their functions in the relevant areas. The committee submitted its report to the Chief Executive on April 19, 2006.
The former Building Authority was granted leave by the High Court to apply for judicial review of some of the recommendations and findings of the Director of Audit's Report. The Department of Justice has carefully examined the ICI report in the light of the issues raised in the judicial review application, and advised that it is in order to release the report.
