Entries received for the "Design Competition for the Revitalisation of Tai O" will be displayed at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre in Kowloon Park, Tsim Sha Tsui, from tomorrow (August 1).
The competition, co-organised by the Development Bureau with 12 organisations including government departments, professional groups and the Tai O Rural Committee, was launched in mid-March to invite innovative input on how to achieve a holistic plan and implementation strategy to revitalise Tai O.
A total of 36 entries were received in the professional group and 69 in the open group. They all showed a high degree of creativity as well as an understanding of Tai O.
The exhibition will be held from August 1-11 and from August 15-24 at the Permanent Exhibition Gallery of the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre. The exhibition is open from 10am to 6pm from Monday to Saturday (closed on Thursday), and from 10am to 7pm on Sundays and public holidays.
Copies of the entries will also be exhibited at Tai O Community Hall, Shek Tsai Po Street, Tai O, from August 12-24. Opening hours will be from 10am to 5pm daily.
Entries for the competition will be assessed by a jury panel at the end of August. The results will be announced in September. A "Pick Your Favourites" competition will also be held for the public to choose their favourite entries and see if their choice matches that of the jury panel.
Co-organisers of the design competition are the Civil Engineering and Development Department, Planning Department, Islands District Office, Tai O Rural Committee, the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects, Hong Kong Institute of Planners, the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, the Conservancy Association, Green Power and Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association.
