A roving exhibition on railway development entitled "In Railways, We Unite" will be organised from tomorrow (July 6) to mid-November at major shopping centres and commercial complexes.
A government spokesman said the aim of the exhibition was to enable the public to understand more about railway development in Hong Kong and the benefit to them.
"In the next five years, $57 billion will be spent on six projects creating 7,000 job opportunities. This will also bring the commissioning of one new railway each year in the next five years, " the spokesman added.
The five new railways are: the Tseung Kwan O line that will start operation in August, the West Rail in 2003, the Ma On Shan to Tai Wai Rail Lin and the Tsim Sha Tsui Extension in 2004, the Penny's Bay Rail Link in 2005 and the Sheung Shui to Lok Ma Chau Spur Line in 2007.
