The Government announced today (September 28) the appointment of five new members and the re-appointment of 16 incumbent members to the Provisional Construction Industry Co-ordination Board (PCICB) for a period of 12 months with immediate effect.
The new appointees are Mr Lau Chi-keung, General Manager of Henderson Land Development Company Limited; Mr Albert Cheung, Managing Director of Levett & Bailey Chartered Quantity Surveyors Limited; Mr Martin Hadaway, Group Managing Director of Gammon Skanska Limited; Mr Peter Lee, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Hong Kong; and Mr Nicolas Yeung, Convener and Founding Director of Construction Industry Institute - Hong Kong.
"Being respected figures in their respective professional fields, the new members will provide the necessary expertise and bring in additional impetus for the PCICB to pursue strategic change initiatives," a Government spokesman said.
Established since September 2001, the PCICB has become a focal point of collaboration to take forward recommendations made by the Construction Industry Review Committee.
As the precursor of a statutory co-ordinating body, it also deliberates on pan-industry issues and serves as a primary channel for the Government to obtain feedback on construction-related matters.
The retiring members are Mr Edward Cheng, Professor Lee Chack-fan, Mr Stephen Liu and Mr Louis Wong. They have been serving on the PCICB since its inception.
"We wish to express our sincere gratitude for the valuable advice and unflagging support rendered by them over the past two years," the spokesman said.
"They have played no small part in nurturing a change of mindset among industry stakeholders, and their contribution will pave the way for our continuous efforts to uplift the quality, competitiveness and cost-effectiveness of the construction industry in Hong Kong," he added.
