Permanent Secretary for Development (Works) leads government delegation to Ministers' Forum on infrastructure development in Beijing

The Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Mak Chai-kwong, today (August 28) led an official delegation to Beijing to attend the "Sixth Ministers' Forum on Infrastructure Development in the Asia Pacific Region".  

The forum is jointly hosted by the Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Railway and State Administration of Environmental Protection.  More than 100 delegates from 11 countries and regions, including Hong Kong, are attending the two-day forum.  The Minister of Construction, Mr Wang Guangtao, gave opening remarks.  

The theme of this year's forum is "Investment and Financing System Reform of Infrastructural Services and Sustainable Use of Water".  The Hong Kong delegation presented a Country Paper at the forum’s Senior Officials’ Meeting today.  Mr Mak will give a Keynote Speech at the Ministers' Roundtable Meeting tomorrow (August 29).

The forum, first initiated by Japan in 1995, has the objective of strengthening co-operation on infrastructure development among countries in the region.  It is a high level ministerial meeting providing a unique international platform for ministers and senior officials in the region to exchange views and sharing experiences on how to enhance infrastructure development and the sustainable use of water .

The Hong Kong delegation includes the Director of Water Supplies, Mr Chan Chi-chiu and five other officials from the Development Bureau, the Water Supplies Department and the Drainage Services Department.
