200 DSD staff deployed to solve flooding problem

A total of 32 teams comprising 200 DSD staff and contractors were deployed to flooding spots in the territory to clear blocked drains and gullies, the Director of Drainage Services, Mr Lau Ka-keung, said today (June 7)

Mr Lau said, "To solve the flooding problem in Sheung Wan, an emergency team was sent to Sheung Wan at 6 am today to remove rubbish at drainage inlets and to clear blocked drains."

"An SMS was sent at 5.22am to the subscribers of the 'Sheung Wan Flood Watch' service to remind them to take precautionary measures against any flood damage," he said.

An alert message was also sent to registered shop operators at around 6.45 pm yesterday when the Hong Kong Observatory had issued the Amber rainstorm warning.

Up till 7 pm today, a total of 539 flooding reports were recorded - 240 on Hong Kong Island, 220 in Kowloon and 79 in the New Territories. The most seriously affected areas are Wan Chai, Sheung Wan and North Lantau Island.

DSD staff will continue to clear debris and rubbish at drainage inlets to ensure no blockage of drains.
