Conservation and revitalisation of Haw Par Mansion
The Commissioner for Heritage's Office of the Development Bureau announced today (September 22) the cancellation of the second tender exercise for the conservation and revitalisation of Haw Par Mansion (HPM), a Grade 1 historic building at 15A Tai Hang Road in Causeway Bay, under a commercial mode of operation.
Tenders for the conservation and revitalisation of HPM were first invited in January 2011 and the tender exercise was subsequently cancelled as the tender received did not conform with the mandatory requirements stated in the tender document. In May 2011, the Commissioner for Heritage's Office relaunched the tender invitation. Upon the close of submission of tenders on August 29, 2011, one tender was received but it did not pass through the tender selection process due to non-conformity with the mandatory requirements stipulated in the tender document. Accordingly, having obtained approval from the Government Logistics Department Tender Board, the Commissioner for Heritage's Office cancelled the tender exercise.
"We remain committed to the adaptive re-use of HPM that will provide some public access, and will actively consider other suitable approaches in taking forward the revitalisation of this unique historic building," a spokesman for the Commissioner for Heritage's Office said.
