Lands Department's response to media enquiries on land control operation at Tai Tong Lychee Valley

In response to media enquiries, a spokesman for the Lands Department said the District Lands Office/Yuen Long (DLO/YL) had arranged a contractor to remove structures erected on unleased Government land outside the Tai Lam Country Park, Yuen Long today (May 21). Staff of DLO/YL entered the site at around 6pm to survey the land straddled on private land and Government land, as a preparation for the forthcoming land control action. Today's operation concluded at around 8pm.

The Tai Tong Lychee Valley Co. Ltd. had applied to the DLO/YL for Short Term Tenancy for the concerned structures. Due to objection from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, such application was rejected by DLO/YL, which posted a notice requiring the  removal of the structures before May 19. DLO/YL inspected the concerned Government land upon expiry of the said notice. It was found that the structures remaining on the site. DLO/YL therefore scheduled the clearance operation commencing today.

In this morning's operation, some villagers attempted to stop the clearance. Besides, the contractor's van was damaged and the case has been reported to the Police for handling.

DLO/YL will continue the clearance operation in Tai Tong to remove the structures on Government land.
