The following is issued on behalf of the Harbourfront Commission:
Members of the Task Force on Harbourfront Developments on Hong Kong Island of the Harbourfront Commission (HC) conducted a site visit for the proposed boardwalk under Island Eastern Corridor today (March 30), accompanied by officers of the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD).
The proposed boardwalk - about 2 kilometres in length along the harbourfront from Oil Street in North Point to Hoi Yu Street in Quarry Bay - seeks to enhance connectivity along the waterfront. As the proposed boardwalk falls within the boundary of Victoria Harbour, its implementation has to comply with the Protection of the Harbour Ordinance.
After the site visit, the Task Force considered that the proposal could improve the connectivity of the North Point harbourfront and bring vibrancy to the district. The Task Force is of the view that the reclamation involved is technical and of a small area, and wholeheartedly supports the proposal.
The CEDD is conducting the Phase I Public Engagement (PE) Exercise for the proposed boardwalk and a questionnaire has been designed to collect public views. After collecting the public views, the CEDD will review the feasibility of the boardwalk and put forward proposed options on detailed design in the Phase II PE Exercise.
