Construction contractors, supervising teams, site supervisors and workers with outstanding safety performance were commended at the 22nd Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme Award Presentation Ceremony today (May 27), the finale of Construction Safety Week 2016.
Officiating at the ceremony, the Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Hon Chi-keung, said the Scheme has been widely supported by the industry over the years with the number of participating projects rising from 28 in the first year to 319 this year, which is an encouraging result.
"The theme of the campaign this year is 'Design for Safety', focusing on the safety of temporary works. We will introduce the Temporary Works Excellence Award later this year to encourage the industry members to share with their peers their invaluable experience accumulated over the years with a view to enhancing the overall safety awareness of the industry," he said.
Also officiating at the ceremony, the Chairperson of the Committee on Construction Safety of the Construction Industry Council, Ms Ada Fung, said that the Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme has been held in high regard by industry members as recognition of their performance. It commends the efforts of the winners in ensuring site safety and their care for peers. Their achievements are well deserved, she said.
Sixty-two sites received awards under the Scheme this year, of which 33 came from the public works stream and 29 from the non-public works stream. There were several award categories, including the Considerate Contractors Site Award (New Works), the Considerate Contractors Site Award (Repair, Maintenance, Alteration and Addition Works), the Outstanding Environmental Management and Performance Award, the Model Sub-contractor Award, the Model Frontline Supervisor Award, the Best Model Frontline Supervisor Award, the Model Worker Award and the Best Model Worker Award.
Jointly held by the Development Bureau and the Construction Industry Council, the Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme aims to raise awareness of safety on construction sites and promote good practices in site safety, health and environmental aspects by commending outstanding role models.
