Free guided walking tours for public to explore West Kowloon

The Commissioner for Heritage's Office (CHO) of the Development Bureau will organise free guided Cultural and Architecture Walking Tours in West Kowloon to promote among young people and the general public a better understanding of the local architecture, culture and lifestyle in West Kowloon.

A spokesman for the Development Bureau today (December 10) said, "The guided walking tours, to be conducted every Saturday afternoon between December 19, 2009, and March 6, 2010, comprise Architecture Tours and Old Shop Tours. They are organised in support of the Hong Kong and Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture 2009 which is being held at the Western Kowloon Cultural District between December 4, 2009, and February 27, 2010."

The Architecture Tours will guide participants to explore and appreciate old buildings around West Kowloon such as St. Mary's Canossian College, Gun Club Hill Barracks, Cricket Club, Lands Tribunal and Methodist College. Two Architecture Tours will be conducted every Saturday afternoon from January 30, 2010, to March 6, 2010 (except  February 13, 2010), starting at 2.30pm and 3.30pm and finishing at 4.30pm and 5.30pm respectively.

The Old Shop Tours will guide participants to visit shops in Shanghai Street that are still operating traditional Chinese businesses such as the sale of wedding gowns, gold jewellery, Chinese scales, incense and sandalwood. Two Old Shop Tours will be conducted every Saturday afternoon from December 19, 2009, to February 27, 2010 (except February 13, 2010), starting at 1pm and 3.30pm and finishing at 3pm and 5.30pm respectively.
