The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, will lead a 270-member delegation from Hong Kong to attend the 2010 Mainland and Hong Kong Construction Industry Forum in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, from June 19 to 21.
The forum is jointly organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the Development Bureau. It has been a major annual event since 1997 for stakeholders of the construction industry in Hong Kong and the Mainland to share professional experience and expertise. This year, a record 400 professionals and stakeholders are participating in the forum.
With this year's theme "Sustainable Urban Form: Green Building and Low-Carbon City", distinguished industry leaders from Hong Kong and the Mainland will share their views on and tools for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of green buildings, as well as explore possible approaches, solutions and mechanisms for developing low-carbon eco-cities.
The forum will feature three interactive discussion sessions on "Green building and low-carbon city policies and strategies" and "Green building and low-carbon city planning, design and implementation".
Mrs Lam, the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Mr Qi Ji, and the Vice-Governor of Fujian Province, Mr Hong Jiexu, will officiate at the forum's opening ceremony on June 20. Mr Bernard Chan, Chairman of the Council for Sustainable Development, will also speak at the forum.
Upon arrival in Fuzhou on June 19, Mrs Lam will visit the 4th Exposition on Green Construction and Energy Conservation, which is jointly organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the People's Government of Fujian Province. A total of 16 professional institutes, companies and government departments from Hong Kong will participate in the exposition to showcase the latest technology and initiatives on green building and energy conservation.
The forum is an annual event jointly organised since 1997 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. Over the years, the forum has provided an invaluable opportunity for the construction sector on the Mainland and in Hong Kong to share their experience and expertise.
To show support for the reconstruction work in Sichuan following the tragic earthquake, the forum was held in Chengdu, Sichuan, last year under the theme "Sustainable Urban Form: From Disaster Risk Reduction and Prevention to Quality Construction".
The Hong Kong delegation this year comprises government officials, professionals and senior executives from the construction industry, trade associations, professional institutes, as well as tertiary education institutes. The delegation will also take the opportunity to conduct a study mission to Xiamen after the forum.
Mrs Lam will return to Hong Kong on June 21.
