At the invitation of the Singapore Government, the Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, will visit Singapore from June 28 to 30 to attend the Asia-Pacific Water Ministers' Forum (APWMF) and the World Cities Summit 2010.
Organised by Singapore's Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources and the Public Utilities Board of Singapore, the APWMF aims to provide a platform for Asia-Pacific ministers and water leaders to share their views on the importance of good governance and the challenges in bringing sustainable water solutions to their people. The theme for this year's forum is "Water Security -- Good Governance and Sustainable Solutions".
Mrs Lam will attend the Ministerial Roundtable of the forum on June 28 and brief other ministers from Asia-Pacific countries on the water supply situation in Hong Kong and the adoption of the Total Water Management Strategy to manage Hong Kong's valuable water resources.
The World Cities Summit 2010, with the theme "Liveable and Sustainable Cities for the Future", aims to foster exchange of ideas and knowledge among policy makers and practitioners on how to build liveable and sustainable communities.
Mrs Lam will attend the summit's ministerial dialogue and a plenary session to brief participants on Hong Kong's latest efforts in striving for a quality city environment.
Also attending the events are the Director of Water Supplies, Mr Ma Lee-tak, Director of Planning (designate), Mr Jimmy Leung, and Assistant Director of Drainage Services, Mr Cheung Ping-kuen.
During her stay in Singapore, Mrs Lam will also meet the Chief Executive Officer of the Urban Redevelopment Authority, Mrs Cheong Koon-hean, and call on the Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, Mr Wei Wei.
Mrs Lam will return to Hong Kong on June 30.
