Secretary for Development to attend Ministers' Forum on Infrastructure Development

The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, will lead a delegation of government officials to attend the Eighth Ministers' Forum on Infrastructure Development in the Asia Pacific Region to be held in Tokyo, Japan, from October 8 to 9.

The forum, initiated by Japan in 1995, aims to provide ministers and senior officials with a unique international platform to discuss development strategies and policies, exchange views and share experiences in infrastructure development in the Asia Pacific region.

Ministers and officials from about 15 countries and areas will take part in the forum this year under the theme, "Adaptation of Infrastructure to Increasing Water-related Risks under the Influence of Climate Change".

At the ministers' forum, Mrs Lam will give an address on Hong Kong's water infrastructure planning and urban development, and introduce the Total Water Management Strategy and flood control strategy to mitigate the influence of climate change in Hong Kong.

As agreed by ministers at the 2008 forum held in Singapore, Hong Kong will host the ninth ministers' forum. This is scheduled to take place in December 2011.

Also attending the event this year will be the Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Wai Chi-sing; Deputy Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Enoch Lam; Director of Water Supplies, Mr Ma Lee-tak; Director of Highways, Mr Lau Ka-keung, and Director of Drainage Services, Mr Chan Chi-chiu.
