SDEV to visit Seoul
The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, will visit Seoul, South Korea, from March 2 to 5 to learn about the city's initiatives in infrastructure development, urban planning and heritage conservation.
Mrs Lam will meet with the Deputy Minister for Construction and Water Resources Policy, Mr Chung Nae-Sam, and other senior officials to exchange views on infrastructural development, water resources policy and urban planning.
She will also visit two successful river projects in Seoul - the restoration of Cheonggyecheon River and the Hangang Renaissance Project - to understand more about these important urban renewal and waterfront initiatives.
Later in her visit Mrs Lam will go to Nanjido Island to see how it was redeveloped from a landfill into an ecological park. She will also tour the World Cup Park and Digital Media City, both of which are important components of the Sangam New Millennium City, an innovative urban development project.
On the heritage side, Mrs Lam will call at Bukchon Hanok Heritage Village, where a cluster of traditional Korean-style houses have been restored by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to help preserve traditional Korean architecture.
During her stay in Seoul, Mrs Lam will also call on the Vice Mayor of Seoul, Dr Kim Yeong-keol, and the Chinese Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Mr Zhang Xinsen.
Also joining the visit are the Deputy Secretary for Development (Works), Mrs Jessie Ting, and Head of Kai Tak Office of Civil Engineering and Development Department, Mr Stephen Tang.
Mrs Lam will return to Hong Kong in the afternoon of March 5.
