SDEV visits Wan Chai District (with photos)
The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, visited Wan Chai today (May 12) to take a first-hand look at the district's latest developments.
Accompanied by Wan Chai District Officer, Miss Angela Luk, Mrs Lam was briefed by District Planning Officer, Ms Brenda Au, on land use planning issues in the Caroline Hill area from the roof of the former headquarters of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department.
She also took the opportunity to visit the clubhouse of the South China Athletic Association in Caroline Hill Road to learn about the association's operation and its future redevelopment plans.
Mrs Lam then proceeded to the Jean Wei Centre (Hong Kong Island) of the Hong Kong Alzheimer's Disease Association at Tang Shiu Kin Hospital. The centre provides daytime training and services for elderly people with dementia, helping to minimise the effect of the disease and encourage patients to maintain their daily habits.
Mrs Lam also toured the site of the former Wan Chai Police Station and Wan Chai Police Married Quarters, which is scheduled for sale by tender in the 2011-12 Land Sale Programme for a preservation and development project. Mrs Lam was briefed by officers of the Antiquities and Monuments Office on the heritage conservation requirements to be imposed on the Police Station, which is a Grade II historic building.
Before concluding her visit, Mrs Lam met with Wan Chai District Council members at Southorn Centre to exchange views on various district issues.
