SDEV to visit France
The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, will lead a small delegation, comprising the Director of Planning, Mr Jimmy Leung, and the Head of the Civil Engineering Office of the Civil Engineering and Development Department, Mr Edwin Tong, to visit Paris and Nice from July 17 to 21 to learn about the cities' urban planning, heritage conservation and green building initiatives.
In Paris, Mrs Lam will meet senior officials of the National Centre of Monuments and the Ministry of Culture and Communication to discuss the country's work in conserving and restoring national monuments. She will also visit several conservation projects in Paris, including the Domaine de Chantilly, La Gaite Lyrique and the Shangri-La Hotel Paris, to see how these historic buildings and sites have been preserved and revitalised.
Mrs Lam will also call on senior officials at the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport and Housing as well as the French Environment and Energy Management Agency to gain a better understanding of policy areas relevant to the Development Bureau. The delegation will receive a briefing on the Grand Paris project, which seeks to redraw the capital city's urban area and tour the Docks de Paris and the La Defense business district. On green buildings, the delegation will tour the head office of Bouygues Construction, the Challenger, an innovative green building equipped with the latest energy-saving technologies.
In Nice, Mrs Lam will be briefed on the development of the Eco Valley and the economic development of Cote d'Azur, including its bicycle and electric car-sharing programmes. She will also meet the Mayor of Nice and the Deputy Mayor of Cannes.
During her visit, Mrs Lam will also call on the Chinese Ambassador to France, Mr Kong Quan, and the Deputy Mayor of Paris.
