Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Development, Mr Mak Chai-kwong, at a media session after attending a radio interview this morning (July 5):
Reporter: Do you think you were deceiving in getting the rental allowance...?
Secretary for Development: What I have done was in accordance with the regulations of the civil service private tenancy allowance. The point is I had moved into the particular premises for which I applied for my private tenancy allowance. The allowance was in accordance with my point on the master pay scale. I think this is all in accordance with the regulations, so I believe I have not violated any regulations.
Reporter: Do you think your credibility remains intact?
Secretary for Development: Investment in private property should not be considered as anything affecting an officer's credibility if it had been done legally and in accordance with the regulations. I think this is important.
