The Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, will start a two-day duty visit to Guangdong Province tomorrow (March 7) to learn about the latest planning and development in the province and inspect the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone (Qianhai Cooperation Zone) and historic buildings in Shamian.
Mr Chan will first visit the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government to exchange views on the development of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen boundary districts tomorrow morning. He will then visit the Authority of the Qianhai Cooperation Zone and inspect the Qianhai Cooperation Zone site.
In the afternoon, Mr Chan will visit the Department of Water Resources of Guangdong Province to learn more about the supply of Dongjiang water to Hong Kong and the water resources planning in Guangdong Province.
On March 8, Mr Chan will call on the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province and the Guangdong Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-rural Development. He will exchange views with Guangdong officials on strengthening communication and collaboration in planning and development, and discuss the pilot schemes of the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement being implemented in the province.
He will then visit the historic buildings in Shamian. Built in the period from the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, these buildings are listed as a major site protected for its historical and cultural value at the national level by the State Council.
Before concluding his trip, Mr Chan will meet with Hong Kong construction industry professionals working in the province to learn about their work.
Accompanying Mr Chan on the visit to Guangdong Province are the Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Wai Chi-sing, and the Deputy Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Enoch Lam.
Mr Chan will return to Hong Kong on Friday (March 8) evening.
