Secretary for Development to lead delegation to Taipei

The Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, will lead a delegation to Taipei from June 6 (Thursday) to June 8 to attend a Hong Kong-Taipei inter-city forum and to gain an understanding of the conservation and revitalisation of historic buildings in Taipei.

Co-organised by the governments of Hong Kong and Taipei City, the forum will be held on June 7 in Taipei. Mr Chan will speak on the revitalisation of historic buildings in Hong Kong.

The delegation will visit various historic buildings in Taipei and learn about the city's ample experience in the revitalisation and adaptive reuse of historic buildings. These historic buildings include Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, which was converted from the former Songshan Tobacco Plant; SPOT-Taipei Film House; the Heritage and Culture Education Center of Taipei in the district of Bopiliao; the Red House in Ximen, which is now a cultural and creative hub; Treasure Hill Artist Village; Lin An Tai Historical House and Museum; and Beitou Hot Spring Museum, which was converted from the old Beitou Public Bathhouse.

The delegation will also call on relevant representatives from the Taiwan and Taipei City governments to share experiences in heritage conservation.

In addition, Mr Chan will take the opportunity to inspect the pedestrian zone and elevated walkway network at Xinyi District and Taipei City Hall Bus Station to learn about the city's town planning work.

The delegates accompanying Mr Chan on the visit will include the Chairman of the Antiquities Advisory Board, Mr Andrew Lam, and 12 members of the Antiquities Advisory Board and the Advisory Committee on Revitalisation of Historic Buildings.

The delegation will return to Hong Kong on June 8.
