The Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, will tomorrow (October 3) lead a Hong Kong delegation to visit Yangon, Myanmar, to promote the development of professional services and business co-operation between Myanmar and Hong Kong.
During his visit, Mr Chan will deliver a speech entitled "Hong Kong and Myanmar: co-operation and opportunities in infrastructure development and professional services" at a networking luncheon organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry. He will meet with representatives from the Yangon City Development Committee and Hong Kong businessmen and professionals working in Yangon to learn more about town planning of the city and the development situation and prospects of Hong Kong businessmen in Myanmar.
The delegation will have discussions with representatives from the business and professional sectors of Myanmar on development and business opportunities.
The delegation will also visit various projects in Yangon, including the Thilawa Special Economic Zone and the Myanmar International Terminals Thilawa.
The Hong Kong delegation will include government officials, Legislative Council Member Mr Tony Tse, members of the Working Group on Professional Services under the Economic Development Commission, and representatives from the construction-related, legal, accounting and company secretary sectors.
Accompanying Mr Chan on the visit will be the Deputy Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Chan Chi-ming, and member of the Central Policy Unit Mr Lee Tak-keung.
Mr Chan will return to Hong Kong in the morning of October 8. During his absence, the Under Secretary for Development, Mr Eric Ma, will act as Secretary for Development.
