SDEV visits Eastern District (with photos)

The Secretary for Development, Mr Michael Wong, visited Eastern District today (May 3) and met with local District Council members to gain a better understanding of the district's latest developments and needs. He also visited the Institute of Vocational Education (Chai Wan) and monuments in Lei Yue Mun Park and Holiday Village.

Accompanied by the Chairman of the Eastern District Council, Mr Wong Kin-pan, and the District Officer (Eastern), Ms Anne Teng, Mr Wong first met with members of the Eastern District Council to listen to their views and suggestions on the work of the Government. They also exchanged views on residents' issues of concern.

Mr Wong then visited the Institute of Vocational Education (Chai Wan). He toured its campus and various teaching facilities such as the virtual reality and augmented reality learning zone, the training restaurant and kitchen, and the food technology laboratory. He also chatted with students of the engineering discipline to learn more about their school life and studies, and how their learning experiences are enriched through facilities simulating workplace environments as well as work attachment.

Mr Wong then proceeded to visit three historic buildings in Lei Yue Mun Park and Holiday Village (Blocks 7, 10 and 25). The park was formerly the old Lei Yue Mun Barracks. The three colonial-style blocks, built in the 1890s to early 1900s, were declared as monuments in May 2016. The three blocks are currently serving as a coffee corner, a recreation centre and a campsite in the holiday village.
