The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD), has once again joined with key industry players from various sectors to organise the E&M Safety Campaign, one of the largest public education campaigns in Hong Kong.
With the aim to enhance community awareness of safety and good practices in the use of electrical appliances and installations, gas appliances, lifts and escalators and amusement rides, as well as to promote energy efficiency, the E&M Safety Campaign features a line-up of publicity and community activities.
"The campaign represents a collaborative effort between EMSD and 15 leading organisations from the utilities, public transport, housing, recreation, and trade associations, and it has been well received by the public in the past six years," the Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, Mr Roger Lai Sze-hoi said.
The opening ceremony of one of the key events of the campaign, E&M Safety Carnival, took place today (November 4) at Victoria Park, Causeway Bay. The officiating guest at the ceremony was the Permanent Secretary for Economic Development, Ms Eva Cheng.
"This outdoor carnival has proved a great attraction for the community, in particular, children and families. It attracted 13,000 participants over a weekend last year," Mr Lai noted.
Apart from the carnival, the campaign also features a wide range of community and publicity programmes including a comics drawing competition on gas safety, a colouring competition on amusement ride safety, and quizzes on household electrical safety, energy efficiency, and lift and escalator safety.
The campaign also includes a series of promotions on radio, newspapers and different modes of public transport to convey the messages throughout the territory.
