Judicial review will not affect Government's plan to hand over Queen's Pier site for erection of hoarding

The granting of leave for the judicial review applied by Local Action will not affect our plan to hand over the Queen's Pier site to the contractor of the Central Reclamation Phase III (CRIII) for the erection of hoarding, a spokesman for the Development Bureau said today (July 31).

The Government noted that the Court of First Instance today granted leave for the judicial review applied by members of the Local Action and the hearing is now scheduled for August 7, 2007. No interim injunction has been granted by the court.

The Government would need to hand over the Queen's Pier site to the contractor under the CRIII contract as soon as possible and as we had reported to the Legislative Council on the details of the preservation plan, the actual works on the Pier would only take place some time after the handover as inspection of the pier structure and erection of temporary support would be required.

"Our plan to hand over the Queen's Pier site to the contractor for the erection of hoarding has no conflict with the granting of leave by the court.

"We urge those who now occupy the works site to leave Queen's Pier in order to allow the Government to hand over the site to the contractor," the spokesman noted.
