Roving exhibition celebrates CEDD's 5th anniversary (with photo)

The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) launched a roving exhibition today (June 19) to celebrate the 5th anniversary of its establishment.

The roving exhibition, which will last until early 2010, will highlight the past achievements and major projects undertaken by the CEDD.

Officiating at the opening ceremony of the roving exhibition at Olympian City 2, Mong Kok, the Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, said the CEDD had remarkable achievements in the implementation of infrastructure works, development of new towns, and enhancement of slope safety.

She said the Legislative Council had approved more than $100 billion in large, medium and small scale infrastructure projects this year to provide impetus to Hong Kong's economic development and create job opportunities.

Apart from pressing ahead with infrastructure projects, the department also attaches great importance to the sustainable development of Hong Kong, and strives to bring forward greening and beautification works in different districts, harbourfront beautification works, cycle track networks in the New Territories, and the revitalisation  of Tai O.

“The CEDD will continue to fulfil its mission, vision and values to engineer Hong Kong's development," she said.
