Overseas and local experts share experiences in "Place Making Forum" (with photos)
The Energizing Kowloon East Office (EKEO) of the Development Bureau held the "Place Making Forum - Experience Sharing on Business Improvement Areas" this afternoon (October 16). About 200 property owners/operators from the business areas of Kwun Tong and Kowloon Bay as well as local personalities, academics and students of architecture, urban design and urban planning participated at the forum to exchange their views on place-making in Kowloon East.
The Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, said in his opening speech that the forum would help to foster partnership and community-based co-operation in building a "CBD2" in Kowloon East. He thanked the speakers, panelists and participants for their contributions at the forum.
The keynote speaker, Professor Greg Clark, chairman of many British Business Improvement Areas and a seasoned international consultant on city strategy, outlined the successful role that business has played in place-making and managing city districts, bringing benefits to both local businesses and the public. Another speaker, Ms Anna Molero, the former Managing Director of Barcelona Activa which is a local development agency of the City Council, shared her experience of business participation in the transformation of Barcelona.
Other distinguished panelists included the Chairman of Lan Kwai Fong Holdings Limited, Dr Allan Zeman; Chief Operating Officer-Hong Kong of Swire Properties Limited, Mr Gordon Ongley; Executive Director of Kerry Properties Limited, Mr Steven Ho; and Chairman of the Glorious Sun Holdings Limited, Dr Charles Yeung.
